Itinerary

Day 1 :
Day 1: Cusco – Pumahuanca – Puyoc

Beginning in the quaint village of Pumahuanca, this day covers approximately 14 kilometers of uphill walking. You’ll gain a considerable 1,150 meters in altitude as the trail winds through lush valleys and passes small archaeological sites like Pumahuanca. Along the way, take in the vibrant flora and fauna, with opportunities to spot native species like Viscachas or Andean foxes. Enjoy the tranquility, as this route remains seldom traveled by others. The day wraps up with an overnight stay at the Puyoc campsite (4,100m/13,451ft), where cold temperatures and a chance of snow make warm clothing essential.

Day 2 :
Puyoc – Yanacocha – Cuncani

Today is a highlight, promising gentler trails and lush scenery. After departing Puyoc, ascend to enjoy mesmerizing views of snow-tipped peaks, mirror-like lakes including Yanacocha (Black Water), and traditional Quechua communities. The predominantly downhill 13-kilometer stretch leads to the vibrant village of Cuncani, where locals in bright red traditional attire warmly welcome trekkers. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the ancient traditions and language of the area.

Day 3 :
Cuncani – Lares – Aguas Calientes

Focus shifts to cultural exchange as you meet local families in Cuncani. Enjoy the privilege of witnessing their daily lives and learning about their handmade alpaca goods. A short 6-kilometer trek takes you to the Lares hot springs, an idyllic spot to relax after days of adventure. From Lares, a bus will transport you to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board a train to the town of Aguas Calientes beneath Machu Picchu.

Day 4 :
Private Machu Picchu Tour

After lunch, board the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by transportation to your Cusco hotel.
